Spotlight shines on extraordinary artists of every musical persuasion with weekly two hour tributes. GERMANY in the late 70s/early 80's, a country after the student revolution, the hippie movement and under terrorist threats. Punk came to Germany and influenced many musicians. DAF, Einstürzende Neubauten, Gudrun Gut, Die Krupps and many more wrote music history by using these roots, becoming recognized world wide for their different style. With Arndt Peltner of Radio Goethe.

The emphasis is on composition, featuring the delightfully obscure and daringly different. An occasional interview or live performance adds the personal touch. Invite your friends over for tea, and turn your home into a classical salon. On the second Saturday of the month, David Reffkin presents "Static Limit" - interviews with important researchers in astrophysics, and related high-energy physics.
Steve Wynn from Dream Syndicate doing a guest DJ hour on KUSF October 7, 1983 that I digitized from the 8 TRACK tape I recorded off the radio back in the day. DJ Boris (who I met at 30 year thing at el rio and was a cool guy) was at the controls.
Here's some interesting things I noticed when listening back (for the first time in years, the tape was broken for a long time and I repaired the splice just now)
The rock and swap was called 'sock and swap' and held at the Kabuki which was a venue for bands before it was turned into a movie theatre and
Dream Syndicate performed live at this one and that's what he was there to promote.
There were also live DJ sets from luminaries such as Howie Klein, Ben Fong-Torres, et.al.
Chinese radio started at 7:00 instead of 6 and this thing went from 6 to 7.
This show is loosely related to Russian life in San Francisco, Russian music made in the San Francisco Bay Area and in its homeland, and other music that the authors like. The show aims to promote better understanding of Russian culture in some of its less kitchy aspects.

The Friday Night Session is hosted by San Francisco music addicts, DJs, writers, and bloggers: Andrew Jervis (Ubiquity Records), Mike Bee (Amoeba) and Tomas Palermo (http://forwardever.blogspot.com.) Since it's official inception in 1996 the show continues to present the most vibrant selection of electronic music on the San Francisco airwaves.
In addition to the full spectrum of electronic and dance music (house, hip hop, down tempo, dubstep, disco, soul ? if we like it we'll play it!) the hosts also draws on the links between now and future directions and more vintage sounds including jazz, rare groove, dub, Afrobeat, and funk.
The show often features exclusive unreleased cuts, DJ mixes, in-studio guests and ticket give-aways to the best local events.
