Controversial experimentation by early electronic composers directly influenced Finland’s underground and avant-garde rock revolution. Otherwise, most local pop music remained conservative. The preceding Studio Finland show presents folk, popular and classical music up to 1958.

Harry Smith: Works with Music
In addition to his early films, paintings, and various collections, Harry Smith recorded the likes of Allen Ginsburg and used a wide variety of audio materials, from Caruso to Estes, the Kiowa of Oklahoma and Manhattan street sounds in his various projects. He also compiled the Anthology of American Folk Music, generally considered an inspiration for the later folk music movement.

Bobby Aro was a popular Finnish American radio DJ and musician most famous for his novelty records “Kapakka in the Kaupunki” and “Highway # 7” from the 1950s and 60s. This show was created from tapes of his old announcements, jokes, and recordings and also presents other popular Finnish-American music from the period.
