A barn dance is any kind of dance held in a barn, but usually involves traditional or folk music with traditional dancing. It is a type of dance, originating in America and popular in Britain in the late 19th century and early 20th, derived from Schottische. Folk dancing events are often also referred to as "barn dances", despite being held in locations other than barns.

If anyone personifies the word 'maven' it's DJ Carolyn. Her impeccable taste in punk, garage and rock has influenced Bay Area listeners for over two decades. A listener passionately sent in, 'she has always been the only DJ that matters. She finds music nobody else does, and it rocks!' Her dedication to the local scene goes beyond spinning the latest indie disc or old-school classic, to outright mentorship of fledgling talent. Catch her weekly show... and you'll find out why, when it comes to Bay Area rock, you've been served." -From SF Bay Guardian who awarded Carolyn as 2006's and 2008's Best DJ: Terrestrial Radio

Before there were recordings, music at home meant playing the piano; and before the inexpensive mass-produced piano, music at home meant gathering to play instruments together. With focus on the quartet, Room for four explores the music that was written not primarily to be performed for an audience, but to be played – for the players’ own enjoyment.

RAMPAGE RADIO is a 6 hour Heavy Metal radio show founded by Howie Klein, Ian Kallen & Ron Quintana which aired on KUSF 90.3 FM in San Francisco every weekend from March 6, 1982 until January 16, 2011 and continues to appear weekly on KUSF In Exile. The early years of Rampage featured the heaviest bands from the UK NWOBHM scene, Europe & the worldwide metal underground along with classic '70s bands and the roots of metal going back to the late '60s. Legendary artists such as Mercyful Fate, Yngwie Malmsteen & Metallica sent demo tapes to Rampage in the early '80s, receiving their first airplay on this show when no one else was willing to take a chance, and we are proud to have introduced listeners to every new worthy development in metal that has emerged over the last 30 years. Rampage Radio is now into it's 4th decade of weekly broadcasts and we continue to play non-commercial metal to an enthusiastic worldwide audience.

Hello all! My name is Andrew Noerr, and I am a DJ here on KUSF in Exile. I am a freshman at the University of San Francisco, and I have always been interested in radio/TV broadcasting. Because of that, I chose to be a media studies major. Music and sports are my main interests, and music is what I am pursuing on the radio side.
I have a show on KUSF in Exile titled "Swamphell", and my name on the air is DJ Swamplord. The show airs from 1-2 a.m. late Saturday nights/Sunday mornings, and it actually is a very intense heavy metal show! I feel that it works well airing right before the famous Rampage Radio show that airs from 2-8 a.m. My focus is to shed light on the many great foreign bands on the metal scene, which also means that I will not be playing many bands from the United States. The genres that I play are 50% folk metal and 50% a combination of black and death metal. A fun thing I do for this show is that I am willing to play metal from all around the world, as metal is actually a very prevalent genre of music in many areas. One can realize this if they tune in to my show, so support me and give this a chance! Thanks for all the support!
A fermata (also known as a hold, pause, colloquially a birdseye, or as a grand pause when placed on a note or a rest) is an element of musical notation indicating that the note should be sustained for longer than its note value would indicate. Exactly how much longer it is held is up to the discretion of the performer or conductor, but twice as long is not unusual. It is usually printed above, but occasionally below (upside down), the note that is to be held longer. Occasionally holds are also printed above rests or barlines, indicating a pause of indefinite duration. This symbol appears as early as the 15th century, and is quite common in the works of Dufay and Josquin.

INTERVIEW
Dj Margaret is joined in conversation with artists DARRIN MARTIN, and from New York, BILLY MILLER on their current projects and practice.
DARRIN MARTIN is an artist, educator and curator. Through video, sculpture, and multi-channel installation, Martin’s work engages cross-modal perception as a way to examine the limits of certainty. Currently, he has been working on a series of videos that have been inspired by working with a group of artists and academics around the topics of disability studies and the arts. Considering notions of accessibility and inaccessibility, Martin explores tactility, sonic analogies, and/or audio description as method to unearth an array of subjective interpretations. His videos have screened internationally at festivals and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, Pacific Film Archives, Impakt Festival, European Media Art Festival, and in 2009 he toured a program of works to over a dozen cities in the US. His installations have exhibited at venues including The Kitchen in New York and most recently at Krowswork Gallery in Oakland, CA and the Center for Contemporary Art in Sacramento. Martin has also collaborated with artist Torsten Zenas Burns, building diverse speculative fictions around re-imagined educational practices. Their works have been included in screenings and exhibitions in venues including The Oberhausen Short Film Festival, The Paris/Berlin International, Eyebeam, and most recently at the Dumbo Arts Center in Brooklyn. Martin occasionally curates video screenings and is the Graduate Advisor in the interdisciplinary Studio Art program at UC Davis where he also teaches undergraduate media arts classes. He lives in San Francisco.
BILLY MILLER is a NYC-based artist-curator-writer-filmmaker-and independent publisher. He has exhibited his work and/or curated exhibitions at PS1/MoMA, Deitch Projects, Anna Kustera Gallery, D’Amelio Terras Gallery, p Gallery, Andrew Edlin Gallery, The Center for Book Arts, Munch Gallery (among others) in NYC; L.A.C.E. in LA; Exile Gallery, BASSO, (among others) in Berlin; Agnes B. Galerie DuJour in Paris; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Artists Television Access in San Francisco; and many other galleries and cultural institutions internationally. His writings have appeared in publications such as VICE, INDEX, K48, WON Magazine, and BUTT. He is also the editor and publisher of a number of independent publications, including, When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again, No Milk Today, and Straight To Hell (which has been in publication since 1973) and has participated regularly in the NY Book Arts Fair with Printed Matter. Most recently, he has contributed to a collaborative film about the OCCUPY Movement (“The 99%”, to be released this fall). POET AS RADIO is a new, weekly program on KUSF In Exile, airing Saturdays from 9am to 10am at www.savekusf.org. Jack Spicer said that the poet is not a creator, but a conduit, getting messages from an undefinable source to form the poem. He thought of a poet as a radio, broadcasting words. We like to think of POET AS RADIO as an opportunity for writers to broadcast their words as well.

My show is called Double Mocha, because it goes from slow and sleepy at 8 a.m. to moving and jittery by 9, every Saturday morning. It's strong and stimulating, but still sweet. It's extremely freeform, though it's mostly 20th Century music, from the 20s to the 90s. Also featured are artists and songs associated with San Francisco and California, drawing not only on official recordings, but also from my own deep stash of demo tapes, rehearsal and live recordings, plus all kinds of other sounds, voices, noises and audio environments from the past 100 years. With your host, DJ Junglebook.
p.s. - You can even follow me on Pinterest! http://pinterest.com/halfbeat/ And if that's just not enough Junglebook, I also program a tiny online TV station called www.HalfBeat.com , with three channels spinning out tons of entertainment without your having to lift a finger.
