The Anti-Warhorse Zone is in it's nineteenth year of thumbing down it's nose at the bizarre conventions of commercial "classical" radio. We're as committed as ever to the truths that music is not a commodity for consumption or a vehicle for technical perfection, and that even the best recordings don't reproduce music - only the sounds. We treasure risk-taking composers and performers who step up and take their own risks. In addition to our unruly broadcasts, Classics Without Walls works to counter the music-as-commodity blight by sponsoring small-scale concerts, mixed media presentations, and informal post-concert meals with the aim of helping draw musician and listeners closer into a community of participation.

The Friday Night Session is hosted by San Francisco music addicts, DJs, writers, and bloggers: Andrew Jervis (Ubiquity Records), Mike Bee (Amoeba) and Tomas Palermo (http://forwardever.blogspot.com.) Since it's official inception in 1996 the show continues to present the most vibrant selection of electronic music on the San Francisco airwaves.
In addition to the full spectrum of electronic and dance music (house, hip hop, down tempo, dubstep, disco, soul ? if we like it we'll play it!) the hosts also draws on the links between now and future directions and more vintage sounds including jazz, rare groove, dub, Afrobeat, and funk.
The show often features exclusive unreleased cuts, DJ mixes, in-studio guests and ticket give-aways to the best local events.
"Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something dusty." That's how Dennis The Menace describes his show featuring six decades of rock and roll by theme. Don't expect sets about trains, planes and automobile though. The connections are more about achieving the perfect segue, uncovering a deep musicological (or very trivial) factoid about the song or artist. All that and lots offer film tickets to indie films have made the show appointment radio on Friday nights!

In the meantime, let me tell you about WORDS ON THEATRE. Over the years I've tried to cover the full range of Bay Area theatre from the smallest companies in the Tenderloin and around the Bay to theatres like the Orpheum and Golden Gate and other big venues. All kinds of shows are covered. My criteria has been what I consider GOOD THEATRE ...in all its Bay Area diversity. And we've got an awful lot of diverse theatre around. I pretty much interview everybody and anybody connected with show business.....actors, directors, behind the scenes people, producers, playwrights...everyone. The format of the show in addition to interviews includes theatre news, info on theatre discounts and classes, and, of course, reviews. Oh, and I sometimes cover dance and mixed media if no one else seems to be doing it. WORDS ON THEATRE is all about letting you know what's out there for you to enjoy. I hope you enjoy the show!
