In comparison, her music is like a massage for the soul. Cook creates it by layering loops of her voice as she chants or sings simple lyrics. Sometimes, she weaves in piano, an instrument she has played since childhood.
At first, she employed the almost diabolically painstaking process of singing into a hand-held tape recorder, then sticking the cassette in a second deck and using that as backing for the next step. Now, she uses a loop pedal, a device that lets her devise loops on the fly.
